A Poet's Day - Wilfred Owen Festival

A Poets Day

Join us for a special day of poetry and music, honouring Wilfred Owen, WW1 poets and all poets of conflict across the ages and generations.

Led by Jan Wilkins, the day starts with poetry readings from guest poets; David Subacchi (Wrexham) Pat Edwards (Welshpool) Gareth Writer-Davies (Brecon) Richard Archer (Walsall Poetry Society) who will be reading their own choice of Wilfred Owen/and or favourite war poem, as well as specially written poems of their own, within the ethos of the festival – honouring Wilfred Owen, war poets, as well as conflict and its effects from the past to modern day.

We are also delighted to have with us Maureen Weldon and Paul Beech from Deeside – a couple with a heart for poetry – who will share a reading slot, with Maureen playing for us on her harmonica. Jeff & Dan Phelps are father and son who will perform a specially written composition of music and poetry. Dan is professional musician and pianist based in Cardiff whilst his dad Jeff hails from Bridgnorth and is the poet. They have already worked together producing a CD with Dan composing and playing music to Jeff’s poem The River, to great acclaim. Ron Turner & Bernard Pearson will be representing Oswestry Writing Group. During the afternoon we have representatives from the military, reading poems and sharing their experiences, including Mac McDonald from the Forces Literary Organisation Worldwide, Oswestry School Cadets and The Welsh Guards, reading poems in memory of ex-Welsh Guardsman A.R. (David) Lewis.

Refreshments will be available.
